The Coastal inspired bedroom Concept board posted a few weeks ago was such a hit, I thought we should do another room!
Modern Coastal Entry Concept Board Posted July 7, 2023
Inspiration
Inspiration came from a different source than usual this week, art. As an Interior designer, I often have a hard time finding just the perfect art piece for a client’s space, mostly because I have the exact piece perfectly crafted in my head.
Now, I have always loved drawing, painting, sewing, just about any crafty thing you can think of (we can get into that another time.) However, often enough, short project timelines and restricted budgets don’t allow for a curated painting and finding something similar elsewhere can be a challenge. That is where Embarking On Design digital prints come into play!
Color & Scale
“Dusk At The Beach” mimics an oil painting with textured paint and brush strokes. The dark navy and grays acted at the base color scheme.
This mosaic tile floor has hints of blues and grays. These colors tie to the artwork and act as a neutral base.
Bright emerald green helps add a tropical aspect as well as some warmth. Neutrals like the wood door and rattan console also help add warmth and texture.
I was very much obsessed with the idea of a green lacquered ceiling for this entryway, because what a statement as you walk in the door! Instead of just a typical crown molding to help bridge the ceiling and light blue walls, I placed a strip of rattan wallpaper then a green lacquered picture rail for even more drama. This detail is unexpected and probably my favorite feature of this design.
Styling
Picture railings are typically found in older homes about a quarter of the way down the wall for easier hanging but, as of late they have been used to create the look of a thicker crown molding for a lower price point.
Instead of putting a bunch of holes in the wall to constantly change out art, you hook a chain over the picture railing then hook your artwork onto the chain. I chose a larger brass chain for this design for a more custom feel.

Coral found at the beach nearby, a simple palm tree sketch in a seashell frame, and “Dusk At The Beach” in a brass frame reminiscent of a clam create a character packed entrance. Pairing these with a navy and brass framed mirror offset for that one last fit check before walking out the door really makes this entry feel personalized.
A mix of lighting with a pendant overhead and a sconce on the wall in totally different materials but similar shapes would help welcome guests with a warm glow.
I placed the sconce between the door and console as a lighting source for both. This placement allows you to easily see where you set your keys and then make sure the door is locked for the night.
The door is a light textured wood which always feels beachy to me. The dimpled glass adds privacy while allowing sunlight to flood the space during the day. A detailed brass handle adds to the custom details of the space.
A striped ottoman introduces a geometric pattern and a place to sit down and put on your shoes.
A more ornate patterned rug in navy, cream and gray introduces an organic pattern.
This wood and rattan console gives the homeowner tons of storage for hats, sunscreen, and other outdoor accessories.
A large palm tree on the other side adds height and life to the space. Placing it in a glossy navy planter, ties back to the lacquered trim.

Now Step Back
A coastal inspired entryway with tons of storage and character acts as a welcoming space for guests and a functional space for everyday use.
Having the walls stay a simple pale blue really allowed the details in this space to shine.
This concept board is a dramatic entrance to a home however, a semi-gloss trim and slightly different styling would allow this coastal space to transform into a transitional or modern style.
