A living room with classic architecture mixed with some funky pieces, makes this space feel modern and gives it tons of personality!

Inspiration
This space started with the bookshelves and wallpaper in a navy. I liked the organic pattern of the wallpaper paired with the traditional built-ins. These two pieces screamed for a dark trim and ceiling to match which makes for a cozy family living space.
Color & Scale
With the room being dark, I brought in more neutral furniture with tan velvet chairs and a white linen sofa. Cozy materials like velvet for a smooth fabric, and a textured fabric, like this linen makes this space more approachable. A neutral and subtle patterned carpet underfoot adds to the cozy factor.
When it came to scale, the rounded chairs, ottomans and coffee table needed to be balanced by a squared off sofa. This sofa also acts as a counterbalance to the squared off bookshelves on the opposing wall.
A square side table and large rectangular art print also balance the rounded pieces. You will notice these pieces are also in the existing colors, brass, white, walnut, and blue.
Styling
I wanted to go funky with the styling. You will find a reactive glazed side table between the chairs for some more blues and browns.
Items like the checkered pattern candle and blue sculpture on the coffee table feel unexpected which make for a great conversation starter!
A navy and white pillow feels even more interesting layered in front of the similarly patterned wallpaper.
A few classically influenced touches like the step stool and pleated table lamp call back to the style of the room.
The bookshelves have a mix of modern and vintage items to further play into this pairing of classic and funky. Books throughout add variation in height, but also allow the eye to rest for a moment.
Now Step Back
This family living room has a variety of seating options for entertaining guests. The styling and color scheme draw you in for a closer look and feel.
A mix of ambient lighting with the table lamp and floor lamp, as well as the overhead pendant, light means this room can function for various occasions.
Finding solutions for an open and functional space for the everyday that also has different seating solutions for entertaining is one of my favorite design requests! This means I get to play around with different floor plans to find the best layout and experiment with various materials, so all the colors and textures balance out.
