I am not a cook. I have never claimed to be a cook, but I do appreciate a beautiful, organized, and easy to clean kitchen. Probably because I am usually the one cleaning up.
Transitional style kitchen concept board posted June 5th, 2023
This week’s concept board was an easy to clean kitchen. The style was mostly Transitional, with classic and modern accents, but you can see a lot of mid-century influence as well in the tile and accessories.
Inspiration
Now this backsplash tile might look familiar since it was an option for a previous bathroom concept board! I loved the curved geometric shapes and pattern it creates. The gray was an easy jumping off point, so a colorful cabinet came into play for this kitchen design.
Colors & Scale
Since the tiles were a cooler gray, I wanted to bring in some warmth with the green and wood tones. A green stone countertop with a small veining worked well with the tiles since the scale of pattern was different. I carried the same stone up to some floating shelves. Open shelves showed off more of the tile and carried that green color up.
Traditional window framing tied back to the traditional cabinet door style. A fine pin stripe roman shade in gray brought another interesting moment to the space without competing with the tile.
With gold hardware on the cabinets, and gray above, I wanted most of the hardware to be brass to add that warmth overhead. Concrete light fixtures added another natural element other than the wood. Those little wood and concrete, wood and brass sconces over the shelves are from an Etsy shop and wow, I don’t think I could have found anything more perfect!
Styling
I kept the styling more utilitarian which would also help with cleanliness.
If you have been following along on social media, you will already know I love styling with books. The top shelf does feature a little art piece from the Embarking On Design collection which is highlighted by the sconce. You can download the print here.
The runner rug in front of the sink brings in more of the beautiful green.
A large vase with fresh flowers balances out the scale of the shelves on the other side of the sink and brings that window view inside.
Now Step Back
After a couple shelf styling tweaks, I knew a wood stool in a white color to brighten up the lower half of the space and tie back to the white accents, would be useful for reaching that top shelf.
A little french press and coffee cup moment on the counter makes it feel lived in.
Hopefully you were able to sit down with a nice cup of coffee in your clean kitchen this morning. I am always rotating between a hot cup of straight black or something fancier. Right now, it's a honey and cinnamon latte, but I'm open to suggestions!
